Marvin Compper joined RB Leipzig in 2014.

Former Germany international Marvin Compper has arrived in Scotland ahead of his winter move from RB Leipzig to Celtic.

On Wednesday the BBC reported that Compper had arrived in Glasgow the previous morning, adding that the defender is set to sign for the Scottish Premiership leaders subject to a medical.

“The deal’s not done yet so I don’t want to talk too much about it,” Celtic assistant manager Chris Davies said. “He fits the profile of what we like as a centre half. He’s used to a similar game style at Leipzig and other teams he’s been at.”

Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff did not reveal to Leipziger Volkszeitung whether Celtic are set to pay a transfer fee for Compper, who had been under contract in Germany until June 2019.

He said: “I won’t comment on any figures.”

The 32-year-old struggled for game time in Leipzig’s youth-orientated system this term, and won only 109 minutes spread out over three matches.

Having joined then-second tier club Leipzig from Fiorentina in 2014, he had been one of the cornerstones of their rise to the top of German football.

This term, as Dayot Upamecano announced himself on the Bundesliga stage, Compper became surplus to requirements.

Compper has made 195 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach, Hoffenheim and Leipzig, and also played in 16 Serie A matches for Fiorentina between January 2013 and June 2014.
